It was a party on the Potomac ...

Trying to create the scene here for you. It was simply a beautiful (but windy) day and I was hired to photograph her son. The scene was straight out of a magazine, just breathtaking in and around the property. We were out back near the pool deck and her son who was starting to take steps, reached up and turned on the outside speakers. Out came blaring, "Southern Man" by Neil Young. I am brought back to old memories and it was so much fun to see mom dancing around by the pool deck. Rock and roll continued to play ..

Songs do that to me, they always remind me of a person and place in time. This song will now always remind me of our session. I don't necessarily dig the lyrics themselves but the music and voice gets me every time. What does this picture have to do with the story? Absolutely nothing .. just another beautiful mommy & me moment on their hammock.

just a little bit more red & orange

I am so sad, we finally had what appeared to be the gorgeous fall colors that us Washingtonians are used to seeing year after year and then ... it rained. So G, consider yourself the lucky one who was able to see these yummy red and orange leaves I wait for every year.

a few more from a session previously shared.

Face painting and Santa Claus - it can't get any better than this can it?

You are cordially invited to stop by the studio on Saturday, December 1st from 12 noon - 3pm for an open house premiere. There will be a fabulous face painter on site for the kids, all ages .. that includes mom or dad too :) live music performance of guitar and vocals (crossing fingers) as well as coffee and light fare served. Best of all, there will be a visit from Santa Claus all the way from the North Pole. Please note, Susan Braswell Photography will not be taking pictures but you are welcome to bring your camera. Incentives to book a winter session will be offered to those who attend, to be announced.

Also premiering in the heart of historic Old Town will be the annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade!

Hundreds of Scottish clansmen march through Old Town Alexandria with their bagpipes in a traditional holiday parade. Also participating are pipe and drum bands, Scottish dancers, re-enactment groups, Scottie dog groups, dignitaries and, of course, Santa Claus.

Date & Time: Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 10:30 a.m.
Parade Route: Begins at the corner of Wilkes and South Pitt Streets and ends at Wolfe and South Saint Asaph Streets.

Not one but two reasons to mark your calendar and visit Old Town on Saturday, December 1st. The studio is located at 705 King Street, 2nd floor near the intersection of King and South Washington. There is signage out front with a separate street entrance.

Don't you want to pinch those cheeks?

This brother-sister-sister family while at times going in 3 different directions was such a pleasure to photograph.

The fall leaves orange and red were scrumptious today ..

but alas this is B&W, no fair eh? My client requested B&W with a wee bit of color thrown in. I'll add more in color was well from this session later. I will start with today and work my way back on snippets and sneak peeks. Img_0033finalebw_2

2007 booked - not even a squeeze in date.

Please contact me to be put on an email and/or call list for the 2008 calendar year. I will be making exceptions in the month of December for any newborn sessions conducted at the studio but will not guarantee delivery on the orders until mid to late January 2008. Sessions will resume mid January. There will be mini sessions conducted at the studio as well, please stay tuned.

Availability remaining for 2007, question of the day: What's left?

I am incredibly humbled as to how much in demand my services have been the last few years. As much as I'd love squeeze everybody in now, I simply can not - overextended is an understatement right in the heart of busy season. If you are looking to make an appointment, the 1st available appointment is anytime after the week of November 19th for the month of November. If an outdoor session is not appealing to you in late November, we can always alternatively hold the session on location at your residence. Please contact the studio at (703) 549-5030 or email at: susanbraswellphotography@verizon.net

Please note there will be no December sessions appointed. Susan Braswell Photography will be closed for the month of December with the exception of working diligently with remaining pre-ordering consultations, order fulfilment etc. Calls will be returned within 48 hours and appointments can be reserved for 2008.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

My name is Susan and I am a canvas addict - is there a 12 step program?

recent pictures from my studio. I just can't help it and my clients seem to love the aura when they walk in my studio gallery. I can most definitely agree the place makes me happy. Studio hours are by appointment only, please contact me if you'd like to visit to see, touch and feel all my work displayed throughout. I also have beautiful albums assembled and a coffee table book you are sure to enjoy.

Based on the pictures alone you might think I am strictly a B&W photographer, that is certainly not the case. I do have at least 5 or 6 color canvases on display and all of my sessions are shown in both color and some B&W unless a special request has been made in advance.

more {ducking}

I am really behind in updating this. My goal is to dedicate each session to have their own post and comments. Sometimes there is so much to say and sometimes not a word needs to be said.
