Score! 3rd times a charm possible feature for the Alexandria Times

This morning a client of mine came down to Old Town where we met the editor/publisher of the Alexandria Times with something very specific in mind. We loaded this box in the back of Johns SUV with the hatch open and very ::carefully:: drove 7 or 8 blocks to a deserted building where the light was fabulous. Voila! I absolutely love everything about the first image especially, EVERYTHING! I will be adding more but this would be my pick. I truly want to express gratitute to the children who participated. It's hard to plan a concept and expect it to go 100% as planned. This was inspiration from my shot captured from a client session in 2005 as seen in my blog header. Img_7540_1a3ebwc5x7hw

traveled all the way from the Virginia Tech area for their session ..

it always makes me feel extra warm inside when families go out of their way to travel, plan hotel accomodations etc. to book a session with me. Those are the sessions you are really praying for good weather though. It seemed the session was a bit sketchy here & there but I assured mom everything would be fine. Working with a 1+ year old is a tough age no doubt but I promise mom (and dad) you have a wonderful session gallery to look forward to. I will post a few more perhaps after they receive their link but here is a quick sneak peek. By the way moms dress was TDF -- a Nordstroms beauty. She looked amazing for just having a baby a year ago!

Sweet plump sleepy newborn baby girl ..

I won't be able to get to this session until mid next week but wanted to share just 1 I adored. New baby girl who still had her umbillical stump attached. Inquiring minds want to know if I was right though, did it fall off *after* the session? ;)

Instant new favorite - petticoat sisters

can't decide between B&W or color. Tried a funky crop, I'm digging it. Will show mom both the full frame and this version.

This is what happens when mom (client) gives full creative control for their session .. (wuv)

Yesterday I had a session which normally would have been postponed due to inclement weather. Finally after months of what seems to be a drought we finally get a good soaking rain. I had called my client the night before to discuss option for new dates. She said (not quite verbatim) "As my way of thanking you for donating your services to the schools auction, is there anything you have ever wanted to do during a session? You can use my kids to do this so you can also show it on your website etc." Needless to say I was stumped and taken back. Wow, creative control? and with 3 boys? hmmm I could not think but would get back with her. I made a call to a photographer friend of mine who immediately suggested a romp in the mud/mudfight etc. BRILLIANT! Okay so there is the issue with my equipment, can't get it wet .. but mom without hesitation agreed to hold a golf umbrella over me while I shot. It ended up not raining, it was wet out though. Sometimes things don't always go as planned, no actual mudflight took place (me thinks: ewwwww because I am a girl) but I think this was just as cool. A sneak peek ...

Mom is also a blogger and will write about the ups and downs of the session itself and include some pictures on a new DC moms blog to be published that she is a contributor to.

Oh and the very last one is what I normally would trash, an outtake. It was the very last frame I took - the picture says it all. "Game over". Can you tell they loved me at this point? LOL As my blog header says so perfecty, "Because life is not a dress rehearsal .."

If a session like this ever interests you, seriously let's go. We can do the best of both worlds ..

Sneaking 1 more in .. had a brief session with her

but had to cut it short as I had a plane to catch. I'll see this lil cutie again in a few days. Okay another 7 month old baby (yeah, yeah, yeah) but man she gave me a run for my money. I can almost bet she *will* be walking by the time she is 8-9 months old. It was a do-over session for sure .. you know put her back and let's do it over & over. She'd just go, go, go as soon as you let her go. I wuv her smile & eyes.

Back from a ::fabulous:: workshop weekend in Greensboro, NC

I only have touched a few of the pictures I took and will likely add a ton more. During the jam packed full weekend agenda I met 40 new friends that I have known some online a few years, we had about 2 hours of actual shooting time. It's late and I am guessing this makes no sense. Anyway for your viewing pleasure. I have other work that takes priority so these will be on the back burner a little bit. I will however share more, I loved the urban, grunge, mill setting. I even put a wedding gown on (never said it looked good though) and jumped in a pool on Saturday night .. just because!

Repeat client but new addition to the family - studio schtuff

just a small sneak peek -- yeah, yeah I am getting the babies back lately and totally LOVING it. The 7 month old age or so, babies who sit up is my favorite age to photograph. I remember back in 2005 almost all year long I had babies who sat up, so much personality comes out at that age. When I schedule portrait sessions in Old Town Alexandria at my studio for certain age groups, I generally start off at the studio and then proceed outdoors. These were in my studio .. (obviously LOL)
